Manual Therapy

Manual Therapy

Manual therapy, sometimes called bodywork, uses pressure, exercises, stretches and heat to manipulate the muscles and restore functionality to the back, lumbar or other areas of the body. Manual physical therapy is an option for those suffering with acute or chronic back pain. Manual therapy will work in distinct ways to help patients by using manipulation techniques that more forcefully push or pull bones and joints into place. Manual therapy can be used effectively for neck pain, providing a source of relief for older adults.

Manual therapy will lead to improvements in:
  • Lessening of soft tissue inflammation
  • Tissue repair
  • Increased range of motion
  • Relaxation
  • Stability
  • Facilitating movement
Common forms of bodywork include:
  • Deep tissue massage to relieve chronic tension
  • Dance and movement therapy
